Sometimes revenge style in network and multi-level marketing works well.
One of my sisters has a talent for making me feel inferior because she’s so bright. Through the years, every time I’ve mentioned my hobbies — herbs, health, alternative medicine, or network marketing — she is critical. She, being from a medical and more orthodox business background, feels equipped to tell me that I’m misinformed about my field or venture. Her husband, Dick the Doctor, has spent years telling me that he worries about me being jailed for my unorthodox beliefs and practices. Living the approved life has brought them a huge “Dallas”-type home on rolling woodlands. They have a studio-barn the size of our parents’ home, a black-bottomed pool, spa, a motor home the size of Nantucket, and every plaything you can imagine.
Periodically, as I built my current network marketing business, I’d ask my sister, “How much does Dick make a month, now?” In my mind I’d say, “OK, when I’ve passed you up by a good $5,000 a month, I’ll just slip my network marketing success into the conversation.” That network marketing goal of sweet revenge helped me to build this business. It kept me going through the hard times.
I’m serious about this theory. People who have things to prove and needs to fill are going to do well in network marketing.
One cautionary note, however. The network marketing folks who are still wrapped up in blaming, complaining, and heavy practicing of their addictions are not ready. You want those who are moving, or have moved, beyond that out-of-control stage that’s filled with self-pity.
