Is it true that Amway was founded in 1959 by Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel in the basement of their home? I heard they were friends in high school and made a pact that they would become business owners and entrepreneurs. After several failed business attempts they launched Amway. They caused a revolution in the business model that is classified as direct selling. I know that today there are many people who own businesses due to Amway and they are making good money doing it. Is it true that this is how Amway started?

Amway began in the year 1959. The business model developed allows the average person to run and build a successful business thereby promoting entreprenuership in people who may not have had to chance otherwise. Amway has made many people rich, not bad for a business that began in a basement. Perhaps, the best thing we can learn from the Amway business creators is to help others. They were not only trying to make themselves rich they were trying to take others up the ladder of success with them and it worked!

Yes, it was started in 1959 by two guys who were best friend from High school. They started the business in their basement. Amway wasn't the first venture into business that these two made. They first started a flying school and later they opened a restaurant. Eventually they abandoned all of that and started Amway. Amway is considered a low risk, low cost opportunity for the average person who has the ambition of starting their own business.
